POSTPONED: Indigo dyeing workshop with Kim Johnson
May 21 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Fiber/ yarn/ fabric to dye. About 1/2 lb. per vat. ( that can be a little loose). Can be either protein or cellulose fiber. Natural fibers only. Natural dyes do not work well with synthetic fibers.
- Quantity 1 of 5 gallon bucket with lid for the hydro vat and quantity 1 of 2 gallon bucket with lid for the 1-2-3 vat (both buckets available at Lowe’s or Home Depot) or 2 pots that fit one inside the other. I use a 5 gal stainless pot inside an 8 gal stainless pot like a double boiler. You can do the same set up with buckets. The benefit of that set up is it keeps the vat at temperature longer. Or an old blanket may be used to help keep temperature but you will get dye on it. The pots and blanket are optional.
- A 1/2 qt or 1 qt jar with marbles. Wooden spoons, sticks or tongs for stirring.
- Gloves, closed toe shoes, old clothes, dust masks
