Members took part in two workshops this past weekend with Susan Conover from NE Ohio: Spinning flax into linen and Weaving with linen. In the spinning workshop, participants handled flax, hemp, wild-looking hackles, and spinning wheels with water bowls and distaffs–all to make beautiful linen. Just who are those women with the flaxen hair?! . . . At our guild meeting, Susan shared a video showing us the tedious process of how flax is grown and processed for spinning. . . In the weaving workshop, looms were loaded with half-bleached, 2-ply line linen warps and members experienced just how strong and fussy that fiber is. . . The weekend was a delight and many wonderful Swedish weaving techniques were passed on to a group of eager learners. Thank you, Susan Conover! And thank you, Mary Beth Sassen for bringing Susan here!
